Trinity Gate Church

Historical references:
Built between 1106 and 1108, the Trinity Gate Church crowns the main entrance to the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra. A rare example of early Rus and Baroque architecture, it features frescoes and stucco from several centuries, symbolising the spiritual and artistic heritage of Ukraine.
Damage:
The monument shows areas of deterioration requiring attention. Some subsidence is observed in the foundations; the masonry of the western wall shows vertical cracking. Sections of the roof covering have been affected by corrosion, and the gilding of the domes has areas of loss and detachment. The exterior decorative finishes require further restoration and repair work.
Restoration Progress:
The restoration of the monument began in 2018. The total project cost is €1,344,851.75.
As of July 2022, 75.5% of the project had been completed.

St. Nicholas Church

Historical references:
Built between 1899 and 1909 to the design of architect Vladyslav Horodetskyi, is a masterpiece of Neo-Gothic architecture with twin spires and intricate stone carvings. Today, it stands as one of Kyiv’s most recognisable landmarks and a symbol of the city’s historic grandeur.
Damage:
A major fire in September 2021 and a missile strike in December 2023 caused extensive damage to St. Nicholas Church in Kyiv:
- The fire, likely caused by a short circuit in the organ’s wiring, completely destroyed the organ and severely damaged the church interior
- The National House of Music lost both one of Ukraine’s finest instruments and its permanent concert venue
- The missile blast damaged the façade, central Gothic stained-glass window (“rose”), concrete frame, and internal and external glazing
- Window frames in staircases leading to the North and South spires (“Cross-Flowers”) were also destroyed

Restoration Progress:
The fire at St. Nicholas Church united caring members of the business community and philanthropists who sought to save the church and the organ hall.
Within a month after the fire, 25 million hryvnias in charitable donations were raised.
During the winter of 2021–2022, emergency restoration work was carried out in St. Nicholas Church using donated funds, and the building was prepared for comprehensive restoration.

Fortress
Monument of national significance
Historical references:
An architectural and historical fortress complex, dating back to the 16th century. Built at the confluence of the Southern Bug and Buzhok rivers, the castle combines elements of Lithuanian masonry, Renaissance, and 19th-century Neo-Gothic styles. Its main structures include the palace, St. Nicholas Church, and Knight’s Tower, forming one of the largest and best-preserved fortresses in western Ukraine.
Damage:
Windows, roof, and doors damaged; cracks in the walls.
Restoration Progress:
No measures have been taken.

Bryansk Church
Monument of National Significance
Historical references:
Designed in the Byzantine Revival style by diocesan architect Heorhii Turovets in the early 20th century. The brick, cross-shaped church features five domes, a semicircular apse, and a three-tier bell tower. In 1987, after reconstruction and installation of a German Sauer pipe organ, the building was transformed into the Dnipro House of Organ and Chamber Music.
Damage:
On 24.06.2025, the following damage was recorded:
- Fragments of glass broken in 15 windows and stained glass panels, with varying degrees of damage to the frames;
- The stained glass in the transom above the south entrance door was destroyed;
- Stained glass on the southern staircase was significantly damaged;
- New, in some cases substantial, cracks appeared in wall structures and floor slabs;
- Some decorative elements of the façade were damaged.

Restoration Progress:
Immediate emergency works were carried out by the owner. Following the impact on 24.06.2025, it is necessary to close all window openings and carry out emergency and conservation (restoration) works in the interior and on the façades of the building.

Mykolaiv Church (Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary)
Monument of national significance
Historical references:
Built in 1800 with donations from local merchants and designed in the Classical style, the cathedral stands in Mykolaiv’s historic centre. Over the centuries, it has undergone several reconstructions and served various purposes, including as a garrison officers’ house during the Soviet era. Restored to the Church in 1992, it remains an active cathedral and one of Mykolaiv’s most significant religious and architectural landmarks.

St. Onuphrius Tower
Monument of national significance
Historical references:
Built in the 18th century as part of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra fortifications, the St. Onuphrius Tower is a fine example of Ukrainian Baroque defensive architecture. It served both as a watchtower and a chapel, reflecting the unity of spiritual and military traditions in Kyiv’s sacred complex.
Damage:
The overall condition is unsatisfactory. The plinth, walls, and exterior decorative finishes require continued restoration and repair works. The condition of the interior architectural and structural elements, as well as decorative features, is unsatisfactory and in some areas critical, requiring further restoration and conservation efforts.

As of July 2022, the project completion level was 54.4%.
The project includes restoration of the monument, improvement of the surrounding area, and defines technological solutions for adapting the tower’s interior for exhibition purposes.
